International & Chinese Ministries
San Jittawait

Rev. San Jittawait has served full time on our staff as Associate Pastor since 1983. He and his wife, Sineerat, coordinate our various ministries among the international congregations.

Ministry History

Our ministry among internationals developed as a response to God's call for us to help resettle refugee families from Laos and Vietnam in the late 1970s. We also saw a need to reach out to the international students who attended local colleges and universities. We discovered that God was bringing the mission field to us in Wichita.

The first International Worship Service was held September 27, 1981. By the late 1980s we began ministering to folks from all over the world, especially from Asian countries such as Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and China.

A second ministry among the Chinese soon began; a Sunday school and fellowship group were started. The first Chinese Worship Service was held July 15, 1990.

Today we work even closer with and among our international friends and families. First Baptist desires to serve God as one church, united as one family, together as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Fellowship Gatherings

Chinese Fellowship (Fridays, 7:30 p.m.)
This group is made up of mostly students who gather each week on the fifth floor for worship, Bible study and discussion.

International Fellowship (Saturdays, 6:30 p.m.) This fellowship alternates between meeting in homes and the church fellowship hall for Bible study and prayer.

Friendship Luncheons (Sundays, 12:15 p.m.) On the second Sunday of every month the whole church body joins together to enjoy a great time of fellowship and international cuisine. Also, on the third Sunday of the month we gather for a fellowship meal featuring American cooking.

Retreats Both congregations plan annual retreats for Bible study and fellowship. Also, the Chinese Renewal Conference is held every Labor Day weekend.

Student Ministries

Friendship Partners

Norman Allen ministers to many international students at Wichita State University by helping them adjust to life in America. He also helps match students with host families and individuals for the purpose of befriending them and witnessing to them about Jesus Christ. If you would like to host a student as a Friendship Partner or if you are a student looking to be matched with an American family or friend, contact Norm at 263-5285.
